Building 46 Paint Center Expansion, Raytheon Aircraft Company, Wichita, KS
Wood Harbinger provided mechanical, electrical, industrial process ventilation, fire protection, Instrument and Controls (I&C), and communications systems design for this 140,000 SF expansion of the Raytheon paint operations facility. The project was developed on a fast-track multiple prime contract basis to meet Raytheon’s new Hawker Horizon 4000 aircraft production schedule requirements.
Project features included:
- Staging and General Preparation area with high illumination levels for final QC and customer inspection;
- Four 95 by 90 by 30-foot freestanding Paint and Cure, Sand, and Clean enclosures with individual environmental process air systems;
- Process ventilation and exhaust systems complying with local air pollution and National Environmental Standards for Hazardous Air Pollutant (NESHAPS) requirements for Aircraft Rework/Manufacturing facilities;
- Exhaust systems meeting EPA Method 319 filtration standards;
- Closed head fire suppression system with discharge water retention;
- Modular air handler ventilation system with capability for future cooling;
- Separate paint mix, dispensing, and pot cleaning area; and
- Compressed air, breathing air, wash-down water, and industrial vacuum systems with piping distribution throughout the facility.
