City of Seattle Airport Way Center (formerly Park 90/5) Police Support Facility wins 2006 ACEC Washington State Chapter Gold Award.
Wood Harbinger received the State Chapter’s prestigious 2006 Engineering Excellence Gold Award for
our innovative mechanical and electrical designs for renovating the Park 90/5 building complex. Through
a collaborative process, the City of Seattle, Wood Harbinger, DKA Architects, and other design team
partners transformed a former Starbucks Coffee headquarters and roasting plant into an award-winning support
facility for the Seattle Police Department.
ACEC honored Wood Harbinger for our energy efficient solutions, such as discharging waste refrigeration
heat into the adjoining interior parking area during cold periods, activating warehouse lighting with
occupancy sensors as an individual approaches each aisle, providing CO controllers to control parking
ventilation and CO2 controlled ventilators for conference room ventilation, and installing
a raised floor displacement ventilation system to improve building health and occupant comfort.
Wood Harbinger also designed a unique water reclamation system that redirects ground water from
an adjacent building’s foundation drain system into a source for toilet flushing, car washing,
and irrigation. This system reduces water consumption by 49% and saves over a million gallons of water a year.
