Wood Harbinger teamed with University Mechanical Contractors for this design-build
Steam Utility Plant project at the Hanford Nuclear Reservation.
We furnished the mechanical and electrical design for the plant, including: six 1,200 hp
firetube boilers, stack economizers, package deaerator and feedwater pump set, 25,000-gallon
condensate surge tank and transfer pump set, pressurized fuel oil system, blowdown heat
recovery, water softeners, and chemical feed system. The package boilers were
modified to include parallel-positioning combustion controls and a plant distributed control system.
The plant is housed in a 113-foot by 98-foot pre-engineered metal building. The boilers
are arranged in two opposing rows with all the burners facing a central firing aisle.
The plant Digital Control System was connected to a facility-wide SCADA system to allow operators
to remotely monitor and control the plant.
