Wood Harbinger provided the mechanical design and construction administration for the West Seattle
High School renovation and addition. The original building was designed in 1917 by Edgar Blair and is
a designated landmark, 2-story, neo-Romanesque style building. The project included restoration
of the historic structure, demolition of later additions, and new construction to accommodate 1,400 students.
The project renovated 94,000 SF in the historic building and added four new buildings totaling 106,000 SF. The
new buildings were designed to complement the historic building. A science and trades building, a 450-seat
performing arts theater, and a commons building with a cafeteria were included in the new construction.
