This project was phase 1 of 5 potential phases supporting the consolidation of Alaska Airlines
heavy maintenance operations in Oakland, CA. The project remodeled 27,300 SF in Hangar No. 6.
It enabled independent maintenance of two aircraft within the hangar, which the existing
configuration did not allow.
Wood Harbinger's work included the design of the mechanical, fire protection, electrical,
and communication systems for the two-position MD-80 hangar bay.
Phase 1 included three stages of occupancy, with continuous occupancy of the areas not under
construction. Innovative engineering and phased construction documents were required to
facilitate the construction process without interruption of normal administrative and aircraft
maintenance operations.
