Terminal Container Yard and Intermodal Yard

Port of Tacoma - Tacoma, WA

The Port of Tacoma's expansion plans included redeveloping the Pierce County Terminal into a major container terminal, with a container yard, 12-track intermodal yard, 7-track support yard, and corresponding infrastructure and utilities.

Wood Harbinger provided the mechanical and electrical design and construction administration for the compressed air system. The system provides:
  • Compressed air for brake testing to multiple locations on the 12-track intermodal yard, including nearly 3.5 miles of underground compressed air piping;
  • Pneumatic brake system service boxes in multiple locations for each of the 12 intermodal yard railway tracks;
  • A heated and ventilated compressor building; and
  • Electrical service to support the compressed air system.
The compressor building, air distribution system, and electrical distribution system were designed to readily support future expansion of the intermodal rail yard. More Industrial Projects. More Marine/Waterfront Projects. More Utility Systems Projects.
